Inability to login to new sessions of applications using Microsoft login

Microsoft has confirmed that they are actively investigating the issue.


Login is unavailable to systems using Microsoft Azure including:

  • Workday
  • Office 365
  • Outlook on the Web (
  • Self Service Password Reset
  • Multi-Factor Authentication

If you opened a session in one of these applications prior to the outage, you can continue to work in the application and are not impacted. Continue to keep that session open; once closed you will be unable to re-login.


The Central Authentication System (CAS) is not impacted.

Microsoft Determines Outage Root Cause

Microsoft released root cause information regarding the login service outage. A third-party IP filtering service deployed an update that incorrectly identified Azure Active Directory (AAD) URLs as malicious IPs. This affected access to the Microsoft 365 portal and other services that leverage AAD for authentication.

Microsoft Login Restored

Login to impacted systems has been restored. There may be intermittent lingering issues as Microsoft completes the fix.

Microsoft has identified the potential cause of impact and they are applying a mitigation to remediate the problem.
