When producing a Unix Password, there are standards that should be followed in order to both create a functional phrase and allow for an appropriate degree of integrity. These standards are provided below.

Password Rules

  • Must be at least eight characters
  • Must contain at least one of each
    • upper case letter (A-Z)
    • lower case letter (a-z)
    • number (0-9)
  • May contain special characters or punctuation

Password Restrictions

  • Cannot exceed thirty characters
  • Cannot contain a space
