Find Your Hostname on Windows

How to find your hostname on a Windows computer.

Logged In

  1. Click the Start menu button
  2. Search for Command Prompt and select the option that appears
  3. A black box will pop up. Type Hostname and hit Enter
  4. The hostname of the computer will be printed on the next line

Not Logged In

If you are unable to log in to the computer, but it powers on and displays the login screen, you can get the hostname by doing the following: Type .\ (dot backslash) into the Username field. You should see some text change below the Password field. It should state Log on to: hostname
